Jib city

With the buzz of the east coast blizzard coming to Blacksburg, Andrew and I headed down to enjoy its thrills. We visited Larson and played around on this quarter pipe that he and John had made in their back yard. I'm guessing Andrew was pullin a 180 here, I'm not exactly sure. Nearly 16 inches of snow in total and word is its not done!

Wolf Moon

Every month the park hosts a full moon hike, which is one of the most popular events of any given month. This month (January) had a rare full moon by the name of the Wolf Moon, derived from Native Americans documenting wolves howling at the January full moon out of hunger. This years Wolf Moon appeared 33% larger than any other full moon will the rest of the year because of its close proximity in its elliptical cycle around the earth.

VIP hybrid

I found this at a nature center we went to tour during work one day. Apparently having a hybrid trumps being handicapped. I just wonder if an evo would feel out of place? Haha.

Stacks on deck

Check out these sick air bubbles I found all around the lake during the first ice. They remind me of stacked up dimes or something along the lines of the Jetsons.

Baldy

This is the eagle that flew across us and perched up above the open water. What you cannot see in this picture is a small wire or telemetry equipment that is on the eagles back wings. Tagging of a few eagles is done annually in order to learn more about changes in population and location.

Bald Eagle survey

This was taken during one of our bald eagle surveys that we do at the park. About five minutes after this picture was taken a mature bald eagle flew down the Hudson River in front of us and actually perched up on a limb just above the open water. I'm still blown away every time I see a bald eagle.
