Every month the park hosts a full moon hike, which is one of the most popular events of any given month. This month (January) had a rare full moon by the name of the Wolf Moon, derived from Native Americans documenting wolves howling at the January full moon out of hunger. This years Wolf Moon appeared 33% larger than any other full moon will the rest of the year because of its close proximity in its elliptical cycle around the earth.
